Our village holds an annual fete. Our French neighbours are friendly and welcoming. The village is 1.5; hours by road from Toulouse Airport and 40 minutes from Tarbes Airport near Lourdes. The Pyrenees, where one can ski in winter and walk in summer, are about an hour away. The Spanish border is approximately 60 miles (97 kms) away. Escaladieu Abbey founded 1142, a Cistercian Monastery, 30 minutes away, holds concerts and exhibitions. Mauvezin Castle towers above with wonderful views of the Pyrenees.
Trie-sur-Baise, a typical Bastide founded in 1323, is 2.4 kms away. It was an old pig market town known for its annual pig squealing contest and enormous lunch! The myth surrounding the Church, built around 1355, was that snow fell on the town in 1355, except for one spot in the shape of a cross where they built the first chapel, dedicated to Our Lady of the Snow. The Carmes Monastery holds music festivals and other exhibitions.
Trie is a busy little town surrounded, as our village is, by farms. The town has a flourishing market every Tuesday morning, shops, a post office, doctors, vets, a couple of small bistro-type eateries, a pizzeria, a supermarket, a building merchant, hardware store, laundry, hairdressers, post office and tennis courts. The local rugby club is very active.
