The house is about ten minutes away from the lovely market town of Quillan. Quillan itself has seventeen restaurants, two good supermarkets, twice weekly markets and all the types of general shops that you could want for. In addition the town is superbly served with transport links. There is a direct rail line to Carcassonne (less than an hour) with its world heritage site of La Cite and airport which has low cost flights (Ryanair) to numerous international and British airports. Perpignan airport (Ryanair and Air France) is about 1 hour 10 minutes and Toulouse International (Easyjet) about 1 hour 40 minutes.
The Spanish border is a 1 hour 20 minutes and the Mediterranean about the same distance (ignore the siren calls of less honest estate agents who claim that 'it is less than hour to the Med'. In a helicopter maybe!).
