Tastefully restored “domaine du bac” consisting of three houses: the ferryman’s house and two smaller houses. The domain is situated directly on the shores of the river Saône (swimming possible, mooring possible), just outside a picturesque village with 200 inhabitants, 4,5 hour drive from Calais. The restoration has turned the houses into modern, comfortable country houses, situated in an enclosed, beautifully landscaped park that borders the river. The restoration has been ongoing: the access road has been paved in 2007, the main “grenier” has been insulated in 2008, the garage in 2009 and in 2010 the kitchen has been completely renewed. Electricity, sewer system and drinking water filtering have been renovated in 2014; geothermic heating is planned for 2015.
The main house has about 238 square meters of surface, divided over the following rooms: large living with fire place/”insert”, ceiling beams and natural stone walls; direct access onto the terrace; large (new) kitchen with all devices (infrared, induction, ovens, dish washer) and enough room for a large dining table, also with direct access to the terrace; indoor garage for 2 cars, with a small summer kitchen on the terrace side.
The first floor has two large bedrooms and one smaller room and a separate shower room with two washing basins and a comfortable shower; there’s also a second toilet; a “grenier” (attic) above the garage is large enough to be used as an extra room (and fully furbished and isolated).
On the 2nd floor, a huge room with an open wooden roof construction and large (Velux) windows can serve either as a second lounge or – as it does now – as a work space or office. This very light room has a partially glass roof, allowing it to be heated by the sun even in winter and offering spectacular views over the Saône valley and towards Ray-sur-Saône castle. The complete house is well insulated, so that the wood burner and the fireplace can heat the house most of the winter; additional radiators can be used in very cold weather, but thanks to the efficient use of sun rays on the second floor, this is hardly ever needed.
Electricity is up to date, with timer switches for many functions and separate power for several types of connections (like cookers, hot water boilers and radiators). Currently the house has a 4 line telephone and broadband Internet (both Adsl and satellite). Satellite Tv is installed.
The annexes were completely renovated between 2010 and 2014, with new roofs, new double glazing, new shutters, new furnishing, new electrical wiring, new water filters and a revolutionary sustainable waste water treatment system. Each annex has a living room, kitchen, toilet, bathroom and two bedrooms, one of them has a garage. The two annexes have approximately 100 square meters of surface each. They can serve as separate, independent houses or as guest accommodation, housing friends or family, or holiday rental.
The houses are surrounded by the garden of 5.000 square meters, enclosed with a thick hedge all around. It runs all the way to the river. No building is allowed on the grounds surrounding the houses, due to the protection of the wetlands of the river that have been listed in “Natura 2000”. The domain is situated on elevated ground, high enough to be above the highest possible water levels of the river. A 500 m (dead end) lane connects the house with the village (no traffic, but walking distances). The village has a restaurant, a “depot de pain” and a post office. More shops and a supermarket are at 7 kms. Nearest cities are Vesoul (30 minutes, train station, hospital) or Besançon (train, Tgv, hospital and all commodities). Nearest airport is Basel-Mulhouse (2 hours). The drive to Calais is about 4,5 hours.
