Located on the edge of the delightful and lively village of Conceze in the Correze dept a couple of miles from the more famous Dordogne, the house sits in a stunning position with amazing views and is completely secluded and tranquil without being isolated.
We bought this property in 2006 to launch our ‘big adventure’. We have absolutely loved living here and are sad to leave, but our next chapter beckons for us, so if you are pondering a move, perhaps this is yours?
The house is on two levels and has four double bedrooms and two bathrooms. The stunning 29 sq m master suite definitely is one of three ‘wow’ factors alongside the equally large kitchen and the outside summer living space. Having moved here from central London we were of the mindset that all the rooms must have a function for us, but be able to be transformed into bedrooms when visitors come which is perfect, giving us an office, a sewing/craft room and a gym.
Without a single Diy skill to our name, the substantial refurbishment and ground works were carried out by registered artisans and there are supporting web albums and receipts which evidence the quality of the work undertaken to the house. All the fittings are top quality, and as we are downsizing there is also the possibility of purchasing some of the furniture by separate negotiation.
Similarly, in the garden we have had a beautiful swimming pool professionally installed. The pool is 9.5 (incl Roman steps) x4 metres and from 1m to 1.74 deep. The pool is still under warranty, the remainder of which can be transferred to new owners. It is an easily maintained heated saltwater pool and has the added benefit of an ‘Abri’ (a moveable cover which turns it into an indoor pool) extending its use from March through October.
In addition we have installed a fosse septique (Septic tank), plus an underground rainwater harvesting tank for garden watering. There is around 1.5 hectares of land, about 1 hectare of which is woodland (providing our winter fuel) and the remainder, garden and meadow around the house.
The 25 sq m kitchen is a cook’s dream (mine!). It truly is the heart of the home. A separate utility/laundry and storage room behind keeps clutter to a minimum and the patio doors joining it to the outside terrace and pool area, make it a joy to live and work in. Conceze has a post office and Auberge and is a very sociable and active community. There are functions and festivals all year round but the annual spring Flower festival and the summer Raspberry and Arts Festivals are the highlights. The market town of Arnac-Pompadour is a few minutes drive and has all the usual town amenities, banks, supermarket, pharmacy shops etc as well as a beautiful chateau gifted by Louis Xv to his favourite mistress, after whom the town in named. Now the home of the Haras Nationale (national stud), Pompadour is also known as ‘Le Cite du Cheval’ and boasts a stunning town centre race course with a racing, show jumping and three-day eventing calendar throughout the summer.
This part of southwest France has four seasons which is why it is so lush and green, enjoying a climate of long hot summers and short sharp winters. Summer days are long and warm with average temperatures in the high 20’s low 30’s.
Our local airports are Limoges and Brive la Galliarde with regular Uk flights all year round, making this region wonderfully accessible from the Uk. The airports at Bordeaux, Toulouse, Poitiers and Bergerac are further away but still an easy drive of between two and three hours. If you prefer to drive we are just 6½ hours drive time Calais or alternatively you can travel by Eurostar/TGV direct from London via Lille or Paris to Limoges.
